198 restaurant email subject lines

Subject lines for every email a restaurant sends, from the first welcome to New Year's Eve, each in three tones. The green tags are placeholders, and Copy gives you a [Restaurant name] version to fill in. We leave guests' names out of subject lines: when a name is missing, platforms print a fallback like “there”.

How to write restaurant email subject lines

01

Say what is inside

"Our fall menu is here" beats "You won't believe this." Guests open restaurant emails for food, dates and offers, so name them.

02

Lead with the point

Phones cut long subject lines off. Put the dish, the date or the offer in the first few words and let the rest trail.

03

Use the name sparingly

A first name in the subject line feels personal once in a while. Every week, it reads like a form letter.

04

Let the preheader finish the thought

The preheader is the grey line after the subject in most inboxes. Use it for the detail: the date, the price, the seating time.

05

Match the tone of your room

A taqueria and a tasting menu should not sound alike. Pick a tone below that sounds like your staff on a good night.

06

Never promise what the email doesn't deliver

US law (CAN-SPAM) prohibits deceptive subject lines, and guests remember the bait.

FAQ

Subject line questions

What makes a good restaurant email subject line?

It tells the guest exactly what is inside, a dish, an event, a date or an offer, in plain words, with the important part in the first few words so it survives on a phone.

How long should a restaurant email subject line be?

There is no magic number, but shorter lines are safer on mobile, where inboxes show far less of the line than on desktop. The generator flags anything over 60 characters. Write the full line, then make sure the first few words carry the meaning on their own.

Should I use emoji in restaurant subject lines?

One relevant emoji can work for a casual brand, but it is optional. Test it on your own list, and never let an emoji replace the words that say what the email is about.

Can I use these subject lines for free?

Yes. Copy them, edit them and use them in any email platform. The placeholders in green are where your restaurant name or your platform's first-name tag goes.
